***NANNY TIPS***
With summer vacations upon us- I thought this maybe something we should
keep in mind.
If you are traveling on vacation with your charges, it is a great idea to
have current photos of them in case they are ever lost.
For a free kit, please visit the website of:
www.Childsafekit.com
For a list of Child Safety Tips, visit the website of:
http://www.childsearch.org/safety.html
Hope none of you ever experience this, but here is some information from
the website of
http://www.missingkids.com/missingkids/servlet/PublicHomeServlet?LanguageCountry=en_US&
regarding.....
IF YOUR CHILD IS MISSING:
Act immediately if you believe that your child is missing.
If your child is missing from home, search the house checking closets,
piles of laundry, in and under beds, inside old refrigerators—wherever a
child may crawl or hide.
If you still cannot find your child, immediately call your local
law-enforcement agency.
If your child disappears in a store, notify the store manager or security
office. Then immediately call your local law-enforcement agency. Many
stores have a Code Adam plan of action—if a child is missing in the store,
employees immediately mobilize to look for the missing child.
When you call law enforcement, provide your child's name, date of birth,
height, weight, and any other unique identifiers such as eyeglasses and
braces. Tell them when you noticed that your child was missing and what
clothing he or she was wearing.
Request that your child's name and identifying information be immediately
entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Missing Person
File.
After you have reported your child missing to law enforcement, call the
National Center for Missing & Exploited Children on our toll-free
telephone number, 1-800-THE-LOST (1-800-843-5678).

The Nanny's Book Review
Here are a few to add to your summer reading list!
*Twelve Hours Sleep by Twelve Weeks Old: A Step-by-Step Plan for Baby
Sleep Success by Suzy T. Giordano and Lisa Abidin*
Babies need it, parents and caregivers want it - the call for a good
night's sleep has parents and caregivers everywhere looking for a solution
like this: an easy-to-follow plan from a renowned baby sleep specialist
that delivers on the promise of its title.
*Baby Fingers: I'm Feeling . . .: Teaching Your Baby to Sign by Lora Heller*
Imagine feeling happy, sad, or scared and not being able to tell anyone.
That's what it's like for children before they've mastered language.
Signing changes all that, and gives babies and toddlers the skills to
understand their own emotions and to recognize ours. Kids' self-esteem
will soar as they perform these very simple gestures and convey the fact
that they're tired, curious, hurt, bored, surprised, or in a very silly
mood.
*Could It Be Autism?: A Parent's Guide to the First Signs and Next Steps
by Nancy Wiseman*
The number of children affected by autism--an umbrella term for a wide
spectrum of disorders that includes "classic" autism, Asperger's Syndrome,
and Rett Syndrome--is growing every year. Most children are not diagnosed
until they start school. But developmental problems can appear in infants
as young as four months old. Early intervention can vastly improve a
child's chances for a successful outcome and, for some, even recovery.
This book provides you with vital information so you can recognize the red
flags of developmental delays and begin intensive intervention as early as
possible.

KIDS SAY...
What funny or amazing things have your charges said?
We'd like to hear your stories-
Please e-mail them to:
andrea@nannyalliancenyandnj.com
We will post the stories in our August 2006 E-mail Newsletter.
Here's one in the meantime...
Andrea - My charge (aged 3 and half- going on 30!) asked if we could go
buy a sprinkler for the yard. It was raining lightly- so I told her, "We
can just go outside, God has the sprinkler running from Heaven." She said,
"God is not in Heaven- He is in Church."
I said, "Yes, God is in church, and heaven too.... God is everywhere!" She
looked at me like I was nuts and said, "No- God is not everywhere- He is
not allowed to leave Church!" :-)
